· Picnic Bench to be installed (now in situ 16.8.10)

· Discussions  ongoing re. volunteers via Martin Stanton and Val Lidiard

New signs in situ ;   one at the first set of gates in Mawney Road and the other placed at an angle by the unused original entrance on the Eastern Avenue.   Graham Price commented that he thought this sign was very eye catching and clearly visible from the Eastern Avenue.

It was decided that as we have  just received £1,000 from the Council for 2010/11 Official Status award, this should be spent on a further two signs for the playing field as they really do add credibility to what we are trying to achieve.     John Pridham to place order.   These will be placed at the second set of gates in Mawney Road and the Gosnay’s entrance on the Eastern Avenue following request from JP and LT.    LT thanked JP for arranging for these signs to be made up.   (Photos available on our web site www.our-park.org

LT stated she will organize with Park Officers  a date for the Management Plan meeting to clarify exactly what plans we and the Parks Department would like put in place for the foreseeable future.

GT stated that he had finally received figures from James Rose as to how the £20,000 allocated to KGPF for the year 2009/10 had been spent.   These figures are available to everyone and will be presented at the next meeting.     The cost of re-surfacing the pathway parallel to the Eastern Avenue was £8,000 which was taken out of the original £20,000.    GT expressed concerns re. this cost and the way in which the workmen carried out this job.     (This will be discussed at the Management Plan Meeting).

We have an undertaking from Park Officers and the Parks Department that funding has been allocated for the continuation of the footpath, the final 229 meters joining up the Mawney Road entrances which will be undertaken  Autumn 2010

3.      FEEDBACK – CLASSIC CAR PARADE/FUN DAY

Unfortunately Ray White is on holiday.    All present agreed that it was a fantastic two days and a special mentioned was made to the local police for their involvement.    GT stated that there was some confusion with admission prices with the football club and our advertised prices, for which LT apologizes.    This will be discussed with Ray White to bear in mind for any future events.

4.      FUTURE EVENTS

Both LT and Wendy Bavin carried out a mini litter pick recently and it was agreed that a full litter pick would be organized after the school holidays on a Sunday afternoon after the football.     LT suggested that this be advertised with the help of the Good Shepherd Church.

LT to contact Jill Lampard and Debbie Barrett with a view to them organizing a Christmas Quiz Night in early December, LT also to confirm with Alan Godden that Hall will be available.

WB enquired as to whether the proposed firework display (AGM mtg.) would be going ahead.   LT stated that this needed to discussed with Ray White and would report back.   Maureen Payne suggested a table top sale which was agreed to.   LT to check with Alan Godden re. availability of hall.

5.      ANY OTHER BUSINESS

John Pridham expressed his disappointment in the lack of action from Martin Stanton following meeting over the park  during which a list was made up of  issues needing attention and various works carried out.   LT to discuss at proposed Management Plan meeting.

Vicky Pye stated problem with small moped vehicle in park, LT to report to Community Police.    It was agreed however that this along with anti social behavior in the park during the summer seems to have been less of a problem this year.

Graham Price also stated his amazement that Lawns Park had been awarded the Green Flag when, as far as he was aware there was no Friends group.    He stated that although this was good for the local community, he had assumed that only parks with “FRIENDS” associations met the criteria for

The Green Flag award.    GT agreed and stated that he did in fact voice this at the time works were being carried out to bring the park up to Green Flag standard.   LT stated that she was of the opinion that the Friends group had been reinstated with the help of Councilor Osman Dervish.

GP produced a cutting from the Daily Mail indicating that 471 King Georges Playing Fields were set up in 1936 by the Lord Mayor of London in memory of King Georges V Foundation.   This was passed on to the National Playing Field Association to create open spaces for the benefit of citizens, to preserve each site and safeguard the land.   This prompted a discussion regarding the old playground area by Linley Crescent and the proposed sale for development by LBH.    LT stated that articles such as this will prove advantageous when discussing the said sale.  LT thanked GP for bringing this to the group’s attention.
