NEWSLETTER  DECEMBER 2011

Where has the year gone !!!  we are pleased to report that our Group has had a really good 2011.

We are pleased to report that Playfootball were granted planning approval to go ahead with their proposal of an  all-weather football facility, including new artificial turf pitches, fencing, floodlights, clubhouse with terrace.   Widening of site access and laying out of parking.   Relocation of existing skateboard park and games area and modification of existing play park.   Works are anticipated to start in February 2012 and hopefully completed before the Olympics.

We are 100% behind this proposal and feel it will put King Georges Playing Field well and truly on the map and be a great asset not only to local residents and schools, but also to the Borough.

The park is probably looking the best it has been, this is of course due to the regular maintenance of the Parks Department (Charlie and Tony)  but also our invaluable Volunteer, Peter who is over there three/four times a week dealing with rubbish, cutting back shrubs, planting and generally keeping the park looking  spectacular.   We are really are extremely lucky to have him.

Recently Geoff Pepper, myself, my husband, Alan Godden a local resident and Peter had a ground force day.  We managed to free up the trees which had been trapped by restricting metal frames, cut back a lot  of dead and overgrown shrubbery along the pathway by the River, this made a huge difference and we intend to do this again in the New Year, any volunteers would be welcome.

We are at present trying to get the Adult Gym Equipment repaired or replaced, we know this is a real asset to the park and the stealing of parts from this equipment earlier in the year was a great blow.   We will keep users of the park informed of our progress with this.

We have just recently held our Annual Christmas Quiz which was a huge success.   We would like to thank David Hague for letting us have the Good Shepherd Church Hall to host this event in and to congratulate his team for winning the quiz.

We will be holding another Fun Day next year amongst other fund raising events, all will be advertised prior to taking place.

I along with my Group would like to wish everybody

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A HEALTHY, HAPPY NEW YEAR
